Data Privacy Policy

The DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (DEBS – RITM), conducts online trainings offered within the institute. In order to successfully conduct online trainings, we collect personal information from participants like you. Hence, this privacy policy describes the process in which we collect, handle, and protect your personal data.

Information We Collect and Why We Use It
One of the mandates of DEBS-RITM is to conduct trainings to improve the technical capacity of researchers in RITM. In the application process for the training, we collect personal information such as: (a) Full name, (b) Email address, (c) Date of Birth, (d) Profession, (e) Designation/ Position, (f) Department, (g) Number of years in current position and the institute as a whole. Additional information such as Professional ID number and other contact details will be collected for the completion of the attendance and training evaluation forms.

We collect all these information for the following reasons:
a. To communicate with you – as we will be conducting an online training, communications between the participant and the training provider will also be done online and via phone call. With the personal information you provided, we will use it to give updates about the training as well as to communicate with you for other important concerns.
b. To assess your knowledge in research – this training requires technical skills and participants are expected to have a continued interest in conducting their own research. The personal information that we collect as listed above, will help us gauge your capacity as an aspiring applicant and as a participant.
c. To further improve the trainings, we offer – the data collected from you from the application process until the final evaluation of the training will help us assess areas that needs improvement as well as to monitor the success of our trainings.

How We Collect Information and How We Protect It
We use online data collection platforms to collect data such as Web-based data enntry system for the application process and attendance, and KoBo Toolbox for the evaluation process. These platforms offer options for restrictive access to ensure that only authorized members of the training team will have access to your data. Rest assured that your data will never be shared to third parties outside RITM without your consent.
